Upcoming Hyundai Creta EV & Its 5 Rivals – Details

Hyundai Motor India is all set to expand its EV (electric vehicle) product portfolio with a range of new models, including the Creta EV and Inster EV. The Hyundai Creta EV will go on sale in January 2024, while the Hyundai Inster EV will be available by late 2026 to challenge the Tata Punch EV and Citroen eC3. Both models will be mass-market electric offerings from the South Korean automaker, targeting buyers in two different price ranges.

Talking about the Creta EV, the electric SUV will be based on the modified K2 platform and will share most of its design elements and components with its ICE-powered counterpart. This new EV from Hyundai is reported to feature a 45kWh battery pack and an electric motor mounted on the front axle. When launched, the electric Creta will compete against the Tata Curvv EVMahindra XUV400 EV, and MG ZS EV, along with the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX and Mahindra BE.05.

The Tata Curvv EV is currently available with 45kWh and 55kWh battery packs, offering a claimed range of 502km and 585km (MIDC range), respectively. All variants of this electric SUV are priced within the range of Rs 17.49 lakh – Rs 21.99 lakh. The prices of the MG ZS EV start at Rs 18.98 lakh and go up to Rs 25.44 lakh. It comes with a 50.3kWh battery, offering a range of 461km. The Mahindra XUV400 EV is the most affordable electric midsize SUV, priced from Rs 15.49 lakh – Rs 19.39 lakh. Its powertrain setup includes a 39.4kWh battery, promising a range of 456km.

Specifications of the upcoming Maruti eVX are yet to be revealed. However, it is reported to come with a battery capacity ranging between 48kWh and 60kWh, delivering an estimated range of 400km to 550km. In terms of pricing, it is expected to be a premium offering from Maruti Suzuki, with an estimated price range of Rs 23 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. The Hyundai Creta EV prices are likely to start as low as Rs 20 lakh. One must note that all the aforementioned prices are ex-showroom.

Mahindra’s new BE.05 SUV coupe will be the first born-EV from the brand’s BE model lineup, slated to hit the roads by October 2025. Its production-ready version is expected to closely resemble its concept. The BE.05 SUV will have a 79kWh battery with LFP cells, ensuring higher energy density and a slower discharge rate. It will be offered with both 2WD and 4WD setups.
