Mercedes-Benz has officially commenced local production of the sixth generation E-Class Long Wheelbase in India. The car is being manufactured at Mercedes’ Chakan plant near Pune. The new E-Class LWB will be launched on October 9. It will be offered with 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and diesel engines paired with a mild-hybrid system. Both engines will be offered with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The 6th-generation E-Class features a redesigned front fascia and reprofiled LED headlamps. The car gets quad-tail lights with unique star-shaped brake lights and flush-fitting door handles. Inside, the new E-Class gets the “Superscreen” setup that includes a 14.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre with an additional screen on the passenger side and a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster. The sedan also features power-reclining rear seats with an ottoman function, air suspension, and rear-wheel steering. The E-Class LWB will compete with the BMW 5 Series LWB in the Indian market.
