Bangalore has been ranked the most congested city in India. It has the highest Traffic Quality Index (TQI) score, which puts it in the “extreme congestion” category (800-1000 points). Mumbai ranks second with a TQI score of 787 points, followed by Delhi and Hyderabad with 747 points and 718 points, respectively. According to Deepesh Agarwal, co-founder of Move In Sync, the Traffic Quality Index has been modelled after the Air Quality Index (AQI) to provide a clear understanding of traffic conditions. The data shows that the best time to navigate Bangalore is at 8 am, while traffic congestion is at its highest at 6 pm. Anucheth M N, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), stated that even AI-powered cameras have struggled to manage traffic during peak hours. There are around 9,000 CCTV cameras across Bangalore. The data collected from these cameras is fed into map-based services to help develop solutions.
