High powers are granted officially to the Telangana government’s recent sensation, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA).
Governor of Telangana, Jishnudev Verma, has approved the HYDRAA ordinance introduced by the state government. A gazette notification has been released regarding the same from the Raj Bhavan today.

With the approval of the ordinance, HYDRAA has “officially” got full powers to protect the assets of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the state government.
HYDRAA was introduced by the state government on July 19th, 2024, through GO 99, to take action against the illegal structures that were built on FTL and buffer zones of lakes and water bodies within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) region which falls under Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts.

Since then, HYDRAA demolished various structures near lakes and issued notices to multiple other buildings and residences.
The governor initially raised a few doubts regarding the HYDRAA ordinance introduced by the government. Upon Municipal Administration and Urban Development Commissioner Dana Kishore’s explanation, the governor issued legitimacy to HYDRAA.

As HYDRAA gained legitimacy now, we can expect more shift actions from the agency against the illegal encroachments on lakes and water bodies in and around Hyderabad.
