Hyundai Creta, one of the top-selling SUVs in India, will soon receive a new special edition. According to leaked homologation documents, the upcoming variant will be named the Hyundai Creta SE, likely standing for Sport Edition or Special Edition. It will be offered in two trims – S (O) and SX (O). The new Creta SE will come with four engine-gearbox combinations, including the 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol (113bhp/144Nm) with a manual or iVT gearbox, and the 1.5L turbo diesel (113bhp/250Nm) with a manual or automatic transmission. The new festive season edition of the Creta is expected to feature some cosmetic enhancements over the regular model.
The South Korean automaker is also preparing to launch the Hyundai Creta EVwhich has been in testing for a long time. The SUV’s final version is expected to be released in January 2024, with production starting by December 2024. Once launched, it will compete against the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, BYD Atto 3, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX.
Fresh spy images reveal that the Hyundai Creta EV will feature a new three-spoke steering wheel and a drive selector lever inspired by the Kona EV, placed on the steering column. Its center console will be slightly different from the regular Creta, featuring two cup holders, buttons for cooled seats, an electronic parking brake button, a 360-degree camera, and auto hold functionality. The central panel for HVAC controls will be similar to that of the new Alcazar. While the electric Creta might get an updated infotainment system, the dual-screen setup will remain intact.
Reports suggest that the Hyundai Creta EV will come with a 45kWh battery pack and a single electric motor mounted on the front axle, producing a maximum power of 138bhp and 255Nm of torque. The same powertrain setup is offered on the globally sold new-gen Kona EV.
