What’s it about?
A young girl named Darshana witnesses a murder. Politician Bhajiraju (Sunil) and international terrorist Jissu Sengupta plan to assassinate Darshana, who lives with her grandfather. Viswam (Gopichand) arrives in Hyderabad from Milan, introducing himself as Gopi, to rescue her and locate the terrorist group.
While in Milan, he meets and becomes enamored with stylist Samaira (Kavya Thapar). What is Viswam’s true mission, and why has he descended to save Darshana?
Analysis
After an extended gap, director Sreenu Vaitla has directed a film. The new film “Viswam” features Gopichand and in his latest work, he employed outdated concepts, the majority of which have become irrelevant.
Similar to many senior filmmakers, he appears to be struggling with the of new narratives, concepts, and situations. Rehashing sequences from his previous films and attempting to package them with purported comedic elements is ineffective in today’s time. He previously made the same mistake and has repeated it.
From main story to comedy scenes, everything is formulaic. The writing of the so-called romantic thread between the lead pair, Gopichand and Kavya Thapar, is lousy.
Only a comedy scene featuring heroine Kavya Thapara and Srinivas Reddy’s role as a marriage broker provides some good laughs throughout the entire first half. Even Prudhvi’s comedy is just bearable. Vaitla rehashed the famous “train episode’ from one of his old movies, “Venky,” to run the story in the second half. This episode, which lasts nearly 30 minutes, fails to provide any comedy.
The less said about the plotline the better since it is again so cliched.
Gopichand appears physically fit and portrays his character in a routine manner. Kavya Thapar portrays the typical role of a heroine in typical style. Vennela Kishore, VTV Ganesh, and Prudhvi put in sincere efforts.
However, the film boasts rich production values due to its various grand locales. The two catchy and visually appealing songs work better on screen. But the main technicians—the director and the writers—have failed miserably.
Bottomline: “Viswam” is yet another formulaic effort by director Sreenu Vaitla. None of his recycled sequences entertain us. Every aspect of the film is rife with clichés and induces complete boredom.
