New Volkswagen Sub-4 Metre SUV Coming in 2026

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India (SAVIPL), the Indian subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, has been working on a range of new models and architectures. The Skoda Kylaq is one of the planned sub-4 metre SUVs, which is all set to make its global debut on 6th November, 2024. The market launch of the model will happen in February 2025. SAVIPL aims to achieve an annual production of 100,000 units from its Chakan plant. The Czech automaker has invested €250 million in the Skoda Kylaq, which will compete with the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, and Tata Nexon.

Volkswagen will also introduce a sub-4 metre SUV for the Indian market in 2026. It will essentially be VW’s version of the Skoda Kylaq, featuring Volkswagen’s familiar design elements. Both subcompact SUVs will share the MQB-A0-IN platform, features, and powertrains. The Skoda Kylaq will be offered with a single 115bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol engine, with both manual and torque converter automatic gearboxes.

The suspension system of the Kylaq will include a MacPherson strut front and a rear twist beam axle. The same setup will be used in the upcoming Volkswagen compact SUV. Reports suggest that Volkswagen might also offer a special 1.5L GT-powered version of the model to attract performance-oriented enthusiasts.

Interestingly, the upcoming Volkswagen subcompact SUV will be the brand’s first model to be designed and engineered in India. The carmaker will invest around €25 million in its development. Details are not available at this point in time. However, the new Volkswagen compact SUV is likely to feature VW’s familiar front grille, revised front and rear bumpers, front and rear lights, and a new tailgate. A few VW-specific elements will also be seen inside the cabin.

Prices of the Skoda Kylaq and the new Volkswagen compact SUV will be more or less similar. More details about these upcoming sub-4 metre SUVs will be revealed in the near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
