XUV700 AX5 petrol MT: My thoughts post spending 70 minutes with the SUV

A short 10 min drive was enough to tell me that this engine could do justice to both a sedate driver and a sporty driver in equal measure.

BHPian wigsom recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Introduction:

Rather late to the party, but better late than never – this is how I’d describe my experience when I had an XUV700 all to myself for about 4 hours, of which I experienced the car for approx. 70 minutes. This was an AX5 7Seater Petrol MT in the Midnight Black shade.

Encounters with the XUV700 till date:

I had the good fortune to ride in an XUV700 for a few minutes last December, and found it quite amazing, save a particular facet of the ride (which I will be detailing in the coming posts); else, very impressed as a passenger. Enough has been spoken about this product via so many reviews. Like always, through these posts, my attempt is to:

  • Showcase some rarer points and
  • present my critical observations which might help some fence sitters consider this as their next car

Enter the XUV700:

First observations:

  • The AX5 has a flip key; press the unlock button on the key
  • Press the door handle, it comes out, pull the rather flimsy handle to open the door
  • Power windows actuate even with the key not in the IGN position
  • The good ol’ hood release lever is there at the bottom right of the dash
  • Driver seat is the non-power type; straightforward adjustment for height and reach. Height adjustment range was observed to be quite good
  • The cabin is real wide
  • Steering wheel in the AX5 is hard plastic; in a way, having no leather is a good thing

Door Handle Closed – as seen on the left front door

Door Handle Open

Driver Door Controls – no power folding ORVMs

Flip Key

Pedals; also note the ubiquitous hood release lever

10.25″ Console at Start Up
