Vijayawada: The clouds over the big-ticket infrastructure project, the Mulapeta port in Srikakulam district, have finally been cleared. Promising to extend his fullest support, agriculture minister K Atchannaidu flagged off the continuation of works on Monday.
The project work, which was launched about 18 months ago, was in full swing until the general elections. However, a change in regime in the state brought the works to a halt for the want of green signal from the state govt. CM Naidu, who always preferred continuance of developmental projects irrespective of the regime change, has directed the AP maritime board (APMB) to continue the work with the same contractor and complete the project as per the original deadline. “We will complete the port by June, 2025 and commission the project,” said Atchannaidu.
He said that chief minister Chandrababu Naidu had actually visualized the port in Bhavanapadu when he was in power between 2014 and 2019. He said that then chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy stalled the project and took another three years to resume the work. The port works would have been completed long back had the previous regime allowed the project to come up without creating hurdles, he said.
