
VIJAYAWADA: The 2024 Karra Samu Championship, a traditional martial arts event, was successfully conducted by city-based voluntary organization Vasavya Mahila Mandali in collaboration with Usha International at ZP School, Etukuru, Guntur Rural.
Karra Samu, also known as Karru Samu or Karra Seva, is an ancient martial art form that dates back over 3,000 years.It uses stylized sticks and swords, originally practiced by warriors and villagers for self-defense. The arena for its performance is called ‘Garidi.’
The championship attracted 100 participants, who showcased their skills in the day-long event. Rishi and Mahalaxmi emerged as the first-prize winners in the under-18 boys and girls categories, respectively.
The winners were felicitated by G. Rashmi, Secretary of Vasavya Mahila Mandali, and Rajyalaxmi, a Physical Education Expert from Guntur.
Komal Mehra, Head of Sports Initiatives & Associations at Usha International, expressed happiness over promoting this age-old traditional martial art form, emphasising the importance of preserving such heritage.
