Touring Southern California’s coast in an Audi A5 Sportback

Touring Southern California’s coast in an Audi A5 Sportback BHPian Mystic recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Weather in Southern California is weird. It’s neither cold or hot. Yesterday saturday night at our home, we had to put on heater to sleep as it was cool and today sunday morning it is pretty hot and hence we ( myself , my wife and son ) decided to go to a trail in our Audi A5. On our way back near the trail is UCSD ( University of California, San Diego ) where ny son is a faculty in Computer Science. He promised me sometime back to show me a weird looking civil engineering department building in their campus with a house hanging ( I am a civil engineer and hence the interest ). Introduction of the car: Audi A5 sportback is designed very well by Audi even though it may look weird when we see that it is a 4 door sedan with the versatility of a hatchback. Sportback version basically means that it is a five door liftback ( hatchback with gently sloping roof ) with a fastback roofline ( the rear of the car having a single slope from the roof to the tail ). This particular car bought by my son is a “S” trim line with black optic package. This being a first car after he got the driving license truly feels like a sports car in disguise. I hope that he would graduate to a true sports car shortly like the Porsche parked outside his house brought in by his colleague. Audi A5 is like a pocket rocket and one can learn on how to handle a sports car ( unfortunately with scratches all over the body as this is his first car ). Introduction of the Trail: Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is a coastal state park in San Diego, California. The reserve is one of the wildest stretches of land on the Southern California coast, covering 2,000 acres. We went all the way to the top of the hill in our A5 by paying USD 20. Parking is a big issue as there are too many people coming here on a sunday. One can decide to take any of the multiple trails available. Some trails are tough and there are some easy trails for senior citizens like us also. The views are amazing and the color of the blue pacific ocean is mind blowing. This reminded us of the view of Bay of Bengal from Kailasa hill near our home in Visakhapatnam with an amazing turquoise color. Weather in San Diego is very much different from Visakhapatnam even though they are both coastal cities. I felt humidity in Visakhapatnam is double that of San Diego. Americans know on how to market the tourist places and we can learn a lot from them. The way they systematically create trails with amazing views and generate a lot of revenue from tourists. We can also do similar trails on our Kailasa hill in Visakhapatnam and market in a similar fashion. Below are the detailed photos of the car and the views on the trail. Back view showing the unique hatchback: When the trunk is closed it looks like a sedan: Front view showing the unique black optic package. All blacked out including the logo: Car in the drive way of a multi million dollar 120 year old historic house of craftsman architecture near to the ocean. We did house warming on Vijaya Dasami day for my son’s first home ownership: Porsche: Frameless doors: cottage perched at an angle off the edge of the main Jacobs School of Engineering building: Pacific Ocean from top of hill on trail: Pacific Ocean from top of hill on trail: Pacific Ocean from top of hill on trail: Trail map showing all trail paths: Parry Grove Trail: Pacific Ocean from top of hill on trail: Little Professor with his mother: Parking lot on top of hill: Ocean view from car at bottom of hill: Dashboard view of ocean when going down the hill: Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
