HYDERABAD: A portion of the Nala Road caved in near the plywood shops connecting Darussalam and Chaknawadi in Hyderabad. The incident occurred around 2.00am and fortunately, no one was present at the scene, avoiding a major tragedy.
Residents attribute the collapse to the road’s age and deterioration, which had weakened the structure over time. This is not the first incident, as a similar collapse occurred along the same nala, 200 metres away, in the past.
The Nala Road, which has served the community for over 50 years, had been showing signs of wear and tear for some time.Local residents had raised concerns about the road’s condition with authorities, but no action was taken to repair or reinforce it. The lack of maintenance led to the collapse of a 40-foot-long and 10-foot-wide section.
The collapse has caused significant inconvenience to residents and business owners in the area, especially during the morning hours on Wednesday. Locals are now demanding immediate repairs to the damaged road and a thorough assessment of the entire nala to identify and fix any weak spots.
“We are currently assessing the incident and identifying the factors that caused the road segment to cave in. Appropriate measures will be taken to address the issue and prevent similar occurrences in the future,” said an official from the engineering wing of GHMC.
