Had the opportunity to film the very rare & underrated Skoda Superb M/T for my video series called Manual Heroes;
^ The video talks about the shift quality;
– Gates are well defined.
– Very precise shift quality, some metallic sounds (typical of German gearboxes) add to the shifting pleasure.
– Also loved the way the gearstick springs back to neutral when you slot it out of reverse gear.
Driving Experience;
– Shift quality freed up (naturally) when the car is rolling & gets better.
– Clutch was light enough and the spring back action too was nice for a car with aprox. 49k kms on the odometer.
– Overall, reminded me of my Laura Manual’s (1.9 PD M/T) gearbox, however that shift action felt a bit more heavier (in a good way) & engaging.
More details about the MQ250 gearbox;
– Has a lifespan of 300,000 kms.
– Oil change intervals are every 80,000 kms.
– The gearbox is intended for front-wheel drive cars with a transverse engine.
– This gearbox is common to cars from the VW stable too & cars like Passat, Sirocco, Transporter etc too get this box.
– As per my research some parts of this gearbox may need early addressing like the differential bearings which tend to be short-living & if you miss replacing them, then the support bearings of the secondary shaft may begin to hum. Also on some forums often complain about rapid wear of the switching mechanism.
