AEOs back down, agree to take up digi crop survey in Telangana

Hyderabad: Storm over digital crop survey, initiated by the Centre, seems to have blown over with agriculture extension officers (AEOs) agreeing to participate in the trial of the survey. During their discussions with agriculture department director B Gopi on Wednesday, AEOS agreed to download the digital crop survey application from Thursday.
“We have interacted with officers and sought to revoke the suspension, we have apprised them of our difficulties.Though they have not given it in writing, they said they will look into lifting the suspension,” an AEO said.
The officials also told AEOs not to upload 3 to 10 photographs of the land parcels during the survey daily and they need not go to very remote areas also.
Earlier during the day, former minister T Harish Rao said private companies and outsourced staff conduct digital surveys in Maharashtra, Odisha, and Karnataka, it was unfair to burden AEOs in Telangana with additional responsibilities and harassment. As part of the state’s cultivation growth goals, 1500 new AEO positions have been created. AEOs have played a significant role in state’s success story as a major agricultural producer in the country, he added.
