Telangana Assures No Power Tariff Hike for Low and Middle-Income Consumers | Hyderabad News

‘No power tariff hike for low and middle-income groups’

Hyderabad: Musharraf Ali Faruqui, chairman and managing director of Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL), on Wednesday said that there was no proposal to increase power tariff for low income and middle class households. He, however, said a modest hike was suggested for power users consuming over 300 units.
He reassured at a public hearing on power tariff revision that no additional financial burden will be imposed on consumers from poor and middle class backgrounds as electricity charges will remain unchanged.
During the public hearing conducted by the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission, Faruqui highlighted the achievements of reducing distribution losses to 4.75%, cutting aggregate technical and commercial losses to 19.03% and decreasing the average cost of supply and average realisable revenue from 1.08 to 0.80. He said the discom generated revenue of 6.45 per unit.
Faruqui said the maximum power demand reached 9,910 megawatts, while the overall demand in the state peaked at 15,623 megawatts. He also mentioned about development of TGSPDCL GIS Asset Inspection and Maintenance System app, which utilises advanced technology to enhance transparency in maintenance and repair operations.
During the hearing, opposition leader in the legislative council S Madhusudhana Chary presented his arguments. Speaking to the media later, Chary said: “If this govt is sincere about the state’s interests, it should bear the burden of the price hikes proposed by the discoms by providing subsidies.” He urged TGERC to reject the discoms’ proposal to increase electricity charges.
