Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TMK) is all set to bring in two all-new three-row SUVs with hybrid powertrains in 2025. One of them will be the new-generation Toyota Fortuner and the other will be the re-badged version of the 7-seater Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The third-generation Fortuner is likely to be come with the 2.8L diesel engine boosted with a 48V mild hybrid powertrain. This setup will be low on carbon emissions and high on mileage.
The new Toyota Fortuner will come with significantly improved design and, more tech loaded interior. The biggest update will come in the form the ADAS tech along with the vehicle stability control and hydraulic steering wheel. Toyota’s new 7-seater SUVbased on the Grand Vitara three-row SUV, will share its underpinning, features and powertrain with its donor model. However, it will carry Toyota’s familiar design elements to set it apart from the 7-seater Grand Vitara.
In addition to these two 7-seater SUVs, the Japanese automaker will also introduce its first mass-market EV and a new rugged SUV based on the Fortuner in 2025. The upcoming Toyota electric SUV will essentially be the re-badged version of the Maruti eVX that’s due for early next year. Toyota’s EV will arrive nearly 5-6 months after the eVX, i.e. possibly by September or October. The model will under the 27PL skateboard platform and come with two battery packs offering a range of up to 550km.
The Fortuner-based small SUV is reported to be named ‘FJ Cruiser’ and it will first go on sale in Thailand. In the company’s product lineup, the new Toyota FJ Cruiser will sit below the Fortuner and carry boxy stance with sporty wheel arches. Measuring around 4.5 metre in length, the new Toyota mini Fortuner will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options.
