Vijayawada: With the state govt receiving funds boost from Union govt, the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) is planning to launch all stalled works of Amaravati from December. The capital city project is poised to get 28,500 crore for various infrastructure works next year. The CRDA is in the process of resolving all legal hurdles to restart the works, as the contracts awarded earlier are to be terminated following due process to avoid further complications.
Municipal administration and urban development minister P Narayana said the allotment of tenders for all works in the capital, except the iconic buildings, will be done by the end of December. “The CRDA is in the final stages of cancelling all existing contracts legally, which will be completed within 15 days. Allotment of tenders for iconic buildings will be completed by the end of January 2025. The previous YSRCP govt not only harassed capital region farmers, but also tried to destroy the entire Amaravati project. They created several unnecessary legal issues which are to be cleared in the first place to restart the works. Without cancelling the existing contracts, CRDA cannot call for new tenders to restart the works,” he explained.
In the first phase, CRDA is planning to complete the unfinished building works as priority. These buildings are intended for allotting housing quarters to MPs, MLAs, AIS officers, and other govt employees. As many as 3,600 flats will be made available once these buildings are completed. The trunk roads, expansion of bund road, and Kondaveeti Vagu-Pala Vagu gravity canal are also on the priority list of CRDA. The 360km-long trunk roads will ease access to the land polling scheme (LPS) plots so that individual plot owners can also launch constructions. As many as 139 central govt institutions and public sector undertakings (PSUs) are also waiting for the trunk roads to be completed to launch construction works.
TDP spokesperson Neelayapalem Vijay Kumar said Amaravati has received over 28,500 crore funds within four months of the NDA govt coming to power.
“With the funds being given for the Amaravati ORR project, the total funds coming would be more than 54,000 crore, which will be enough to fast track and complete phase 1 works of the capital,” he said.
