Hyderabad: An IndiGo flight going to Chandigarh from Hyderabad received a bomb threat on Friday. The CISF officials are conducting searches inside the plane. More than 100 passengers were onboard the plane.

On Thursday, nearly 85 flights received fresh bomb threats including 13 flights of Akasa Air, and 20 flights each of Air India, Indigo and Vistara. In just 12 days, around 260 flights operated by Indian carriers have been targeted with such threats.

An Akasa Air spokesperson said some of its flights operating on October 24 have received security alerts. “The Akasa Air Emergency Response teams are monitoring the situation and are in touch with the security and regulatory authorities. We are following all safety and security procedures in coordination with local authorities,” the spokesperson said in a statement. Other airlines are yet to issue a statement regarding the same.

The Centre recently pulled up Meta and X as the hoax messages were posted and circulated on social media. The IT Ministry on Wednesday slammed X and Meta and said that the situation amounts to “abetting crime”. The officials of the IT ministry also questioned its representatives on the steps taken to stop such alarming rumours from spreading.

The Centre took the matter into its hands and the Civil Aviation Ministry declared that those sending threats could be banned from flying apart from serious actions that will be taken against them.

Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said the ministry is looking for “serious solutions” to curb the menace and the government is mulling to make legislative amendments to deal with the crisis. The central government is also planning to amend the Aircraft Security Rules to enable the authorities to put the perpetrators on the no-fly list.
