Hyderabad: The mob protesting outside the Muthyalamma (local deity) temple in Secunderabad recently had decided to attack a place of worship and were prepared to harm police personnel, if they stood in their way, reads the remand report filed in the Oct 19 case by Market Police.
The report, drafted based on the statement of a woman sub-inspector who was on bandobast duty at the spot, was submitted before a local court a few days ago, after the arrest of six accused in the incident. The allegations made against protestors in the report have, however, been refused by members of Hindu organisations.
“They decided to attack a place of worship even by eliminating some of the police personnel by starting to pelt stones, sticks, footwear, and water bottles at police and attempted to kill police. But police strongly prevented their attempt five to six times. Additional forces reached there and disrupted all the activities from the spot,” the remand report states.
Five days after the idol at the Muthyalamma temple was allegedly desecrated by a miscreant, later identified as Salman Salim Thakur, violence broke out at the site when some Hindu organisations gathered there to protest against the incident.
They even accused the police of inaction against the accused who was caught damaging the idol and beaten up by locals. Members of Bajrang Dal have termed the police allegations false.
“Our cadre protested in a peaceful manner. It was 50 to 60 outsiders who joined the rally who resorted to violence as they were instigated. Many of our cadre members who were not part of the stir, including me, were framed in the case. We have already approached the high court, and I am sure we will get justice,” said Shiva Ramulu, convenor of Bajrang Dal (Telangana). Police have so far named 30 people as accused in the case.
Meanwhile, DCP (North Zone) S Rashmi Perumal in a meeting with officials of police stations under her zone directed them to conduct a security audit of all the religious structures.
