HYDERABAD : Ten days after the desecration of an idol at Muthyalamma temple in Kummarguda, Hyderabad police have decided to move the case from the local Market police to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Central Crime Station.
The desecration of the idol was allegedly done by Salman Salim Thakur from Mumbai, which later led to an outbreak of violence.
Sources confirmed that the idol desecration case will now be handled by the SIT, while no decision has been made regarding the violence-related cases.
Salman, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital after being attacked by a mob near the temple, is expected to be transferred to judicial remand once cleared by doctors. “The SIT will also investigate the alleged role of Munawar Zama from Mumbai, who is accused of indoctrinating Salman,” sources said.
Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal’s Telangana convenor Shiva Ramulu accused the police of falsely implicating VHP and Bajrang Dal leaders in the violence, despite their absence from the rally.
Police have denied these allegations, stating that their actions were based on video evidence and that individuals can have their names removed from the FIR if they can prove their non-involvement. Already, some of the accused approached the high court, which directed police not to initiate coercive steps till Dec 2, while six accused were declared arrested by police.
