Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) President and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday announced Rs 1 crore in aid for Vijayawada flood victims after discussing the flood issue with senior party leaders at the party office in Andhra Pradesh’s Tadepalli.
Jagan, who personally visited the flood-affected areas, criticised the state government for failing to provide adequate assistance to the victims. He emphasised that the financial assistance from the party would go directly to those in need.
YSRCP leaders noted that although Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had toured the affected areas, significant relief measures were still lacking, leaving many without access to food, clean water, and medicine.
The opposition leader in the Legislative Council, MLC Botsa Satyanarayana, announced that YSRCP would distribute 1 lakh milk packets and 2 lakh water bottles to flood victims in Vijayawada on Wednesday.
He criticised the government’s lack of preparedness and inadequate response to the crisis, highlighting the neglect of basic needs such as food, water, and shelter.
Meanwhile, former Andhra Pradesh Minister Roja Selvamani alleged that the ruling party’s ministers were on vacations while the people in the state were suffering due to floods.
In a video message posted on YSRCP’s twitter handle, Roja said, “It is really sad that this (TDP) government is in the unfortunate situation of not being able to provide at least milk and water to the flood victims. This coalition government is responsible for the loss of life and property. While the people are suffering due to floods, the ministers of the state are going on vacations.”
At least 17 people have died in rain-related incidents during the floods.
