YS Jagan Mohan Reddy: Sharmila Reddy Accuses Brother Jagan of Family Betrayal in Property Dispute | Vijayawada News

Dragging one’s own mother to court not ghar ghar ki kahani: Sharmila

Vijayawada: Continuing her tirade against her brother and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy over the recent property dispute, APCC president YS Sharmila Reddy said dragging one’s own mother to court is not “ghar ghar ki kahani” (regular issues in all families).
Addressing a press conference at Andhra Ratna Bhavan in Vijayawada on Saturday, she expressed her dismay over Jagan dismissing her concerns as mere “family drama”, Sharmila said Jagan violated a memorandum of understanding that stipulated equal distribution of family assets. She also shared the deep sorrow felt by their mother, Vijayamma, who has been dragged to the NCLT by her own son. With tears in her eyes, she recounted how her mother despaired at the situation, questioning whether she lived to see the day when her son would prioritise material possessions over the bonds of family.
She reminded YSRCP members about the contributions made by her and Vijayamma, including her 3,200-km padayatra which helped Jagan secure victory in 2019, and questioned her exclusion from the party. She appealed to Jagan to adhere to the values and legacy of their late father YS Rajasekhara Reddy, while also questioning the sincerity of certain family members and close associates within YSR’s circle.
Sharmila specifically mentioned YV Subba Reddy, a close aide of YSR and a relative, asking why he recently made statements about her property claims. She recalled how Subba Reddy once held a deeply respectful bond with her father and warned that other loyalists might join this criticism, signalling a potential rift among YSR’s trusted circle.
She also revealed the reason for involving these individuals, including Rajya Sabha MP V Vijaysai Reddy, in a recent letter addressed to Jagan. She said her intent was to test their integrity. She also declared that she would willingly take an oath on her children to attest to her claims, and challenged others in the family and close circle, including Subba Reddy and Jagan, to do the same.
Reflecting on her father’s principles, she reminded everyone of YSR’s intention for equal shares in family-owned companies like Bharathi Cements and Sakshi Media. According to her, YSR envisioned equal ownership for his grandchildren, which was formalised in an MoU that Jagan himself signed. This agreement, she said, was not initiated by her but by Jagan, who pledged to honour the distribution of assets among the family members. She also questioned who makes an MoU just to gift assets unless there is an obligation and responsibility to fulfil.
