Air India starts direct Vijayawada-Mumbai daily service; check details


Air India has launched its direct flight service between Vijayawada and Mumbai on June 15 from the Vijayawada International Airport in Gannavaram. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Machilipatnam and Vijayawada MPs Vallabhaneni Balashowry and Kesineni Sivanadh (Chinni).

Speaking at the launch, Vijayawada International Airport Director Lakshmikantha Reddy highlighted the significance of the operations and said, “The introduction of the daily A-320 flight service between Vijayawada and Mumbai marks a pivotal moment for our airport.”

Departing from Mumbai at 3.55 pm, the flight arrives in Vijayawada at 5.45 pm. On its return, it departs Vijayawada at 7:10 pm and lands in Mumbai at 9 pm daily.

“This route not only enhances connectivity between Western India and Vijayawada, but serves as a gateway to international destinations in the Middle East, Europe, and the US,” Reddy said.

Meanwhile, newly-appoint CEO of Star Alliance, Theo Panagiotoulias said that India is a big aviation market for the aviation sector. The CEO of the world’s first global airline alliance highlighted that a stronger partnership between Air India and Lufthansa is good for the aviation sector as efforts of the Star Alliance are to bring the partners together to provide a unique value proposition for travellers.

Air India and Lufthansa are part of the Star Alliance, whose 26 member airlines come together at more than 50 global hubs to offer smooth connections across a global network.

A management company, based in Frankfurt and Singapore, coordinates Star Alliance projects and activities. It includes airport co-location, digital infrastructure, frequent flyer integration and joint business lounge projects to improve the travel experience.

Talking to PTI on the sidelines of IATA annual general meeting in Dubai this week, Panagiotoulias was bullish about the prospects in the Indian market that offers “so much of opportunities”.
