Caste Survey: Telangana’s Caste Survey Set to Begin with 80K Enumerators | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Telangana is set to commence statewide public hearings on Monday as part of its comprehensive caste survey to assess socio-economic and political representation across government and private sectors.
The Telangana Commission for Backward Classes (BC Commission) will launch its first public hearing at the Adilabad collectorate for the combined district. Chairman G Niranjan confirmed the commission’s departure for Adilabad, with plans to begin proceedings at 10 am following prayers at Saraswathi Temple in Basara. The hearing will welcome input from individuals, community organizations, and civil society groups.
The state cabinet has approved an ambitious timeline, targeting completion by November 30. Chief minister A Revanth Reddy is expected to brief district collectors about training protocols for the massive ground operation, which involves 80,000 enumerators and 10,000 supervisors. Door-to-door data collection is scheduled to begin around November 4-5, with the final report due by mid-December.
The planning department, designated as the nodal agency, will oversee the door-to-door survey. Meanwhile, the BC Commission has already initiated consultations with intellectuals, experts, and caste associations at its Khairatabad office.
The survey’s findings will serve multiple purposes: Determining BC reservations in local bodies and political sectors in tune with their population, and guiding the distribution of welfare schemes and budget allocations for other communities. However, any increase in BC reservations — a key Congress campaign promise — would require either Supreme Court intervention to relax the 50% reservation cap or parliamentary legislation.
