Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed the officials to construct a new complex for Osmania General Hospital on 32 acres at Goshamahal to cater to the medical and health needs of the people for the next 50 years.
“The police stadium and police sports complex in Goshamahal have an area of 32 acres. Transfer this land, which is currently under the control of police department, to the medical and health department and expedite arrangements for the construction of new OGH there,” he said.
The CM held the first review meeting on various developmental works being taken up under Smart Proactive Efficient and Effective Delivery (SPEED) programme, a brainchild of the CM.
Among the 19 works on the SPEED list, Revanth discussed plans for the construction of a new building for OGH, 15 new nursing colleges, 28 new paramedical colleges and samakhya buildings for self-help groups in the districts.
The designs of the new OGH building should be made after assessing the needs for the next 50 years, including the road connectivity, the CM said. Along with all the required departments of the hospital, an academic block and hostels for nursing staff will also be constructed.
The CM said they will take every measure to protect the existing buildings of OGH to preserve its heritage. He said alternate land at Petla Burj will be allotted to the police department.
“The district collector will inspect the area around the Police Transport Organisation and city police academy located in Petla Burj. The police stadium and sports complex, currently located in Goshamahal, will be shifted there,” the CM said.
Revanth directed the officials to speed up construction of new hospitals in the state and complete 15 nursing college buildings within a year.
