Visakhapatnam: The Hyderabad-Vizag IndiGo flight (6E-409) faced a bomb threat, which later turned out to be a hoax. This resulted in more than two hours delay at Visakhapatnam airport on Monday afternoon.
Over 350 flights operated by Indian carriers have received hoax bomb threats in the past couple of weeks, most of them through social media platforms.
Sources said that a threat was received through microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) that a bomb was planted in the aircraft.
By the time the authorities received the threat, the flight had already taken off from Hyderabad at its scheduled take-off time of 1.22 pm.
Authorities at Hyderabad airport then alerted their counterparts in Vizag about the threat.
After the flight from Hyderabad landed at 2.33 pm, bomb disposal squad and other staff entered the flight and thoroughly checked it. However, the re was no bomb found in the flight.
Because of the fake threat, the flight was delayed by around two hours and it left for Mumbai (6E-5247) at 5.07 pm and landed at 7.26 pm, as against its scheduled arrival time of 5.20 pm.
