VIJAYAWADA: HCL Technologies has announced decision to significantly expand operations in Andhra Pradesh.
The company, which established its campus in Gannavaram in Vijayawada during the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) govt tenure, has committed to augmenting its existing workforce of 4,500 by an additional 5,500 in the first phase. Furthermore, HCL has pledged to generate another 10,000 employment opportunities in the second phase by constructing a new campus.
On Tuesday, IT minister Nara Lokesh persuaded the HCL management to initiate the expansion project. The meeting at the minister’s residence in Undavalli here was attended by HCL’s vice-president of corporate affairs and global head of Ed tech business, along with associate vice-president Sivaprasad to discuss the company’s future plans for Andhra Pradesh.
HCL had promised 20k jobs at its Andhra centre
Lokesh reminisced about his efforts to convince HCL chairperson Shiv Nadar to establish the new campus in Gan navaram. He emphasised that he had offered the best possible in frastructure and govt support to outshine the proposals from other states. HCL had initially committed to providing at least 20,000 jobs at its Andhra Pradesh centre in various phases. However, Lokesh noted that the company faced discouragement and harassment from the previous YSRCP govt, which “failed” tore lease the promised subsidies.
Assuring the release of all outstanding dues to the company in a phased manner, Lokesh urged HCL to revive its plans for operational expansion, aligning with the govt’s goal of creating 20 lakh jobs over the next five years.
Following deliberations with the IT minister, HCL’s representatives agreed to proceed with the expansion at the Gannavaram campus. Corporate vice- president Sivashankar stated that they would aim to create about 5,500 jobs in the first phase, transforming the centre into a 10,000-seat facility.
She said upon completion of the new building, they would initiate the second phase, focusing on recruiting an additional 10,000 individuals. Sivashankar assured that the expansion would incorporate the latest technologies dominating the current global IT market. She requested the minister’s assistance in expediting the necessary clearances for their expansion plans.
