Vijayawada: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that an appropriate decision would be made on the proposed Waqf Amendment Act after discussing with all the stakeholders.
Naidu assured the delegation of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, led by its general secretary Maulana Fazlur Rahim Majaddidi that they would support genuine concerns being expressed by the Muslim community over the proposed amendments.
Minister for law NMD Farooq, former chairman of the legislative council Shariff and other party minority leaders met Naidu on Wednesday night along with the members of the Muslim Personal Law Board.
They expressed their objections to the central govt’s proposals regarding amendments to the Waqf Act. They stated that these proposals would weaken the Waqf Board and harm the rights and sentiments of the Muslim community.
During the meeting, the representatives explained their concerns and requested Naidu not to accept the changes to the Waqf Act and to oppose the legislation in Parliament. They thanked Naidu for supporting the demand to send the bill to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).
