Hyderabad: Telangana is expected to see a robust demand of around 75,000 gig workers this festival season, according to experts.
Industry experts point out that this demand is not only concentrated in Hyderabad but also in other prominent cities like Warangal, Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad and Karimnagar.
According to staffing firm TeamLease, the gig workforce across the country is expected to increase by 10 lakh this festive season.
Balasubramanian A, senior vice president and business head, Team Lease Staffing, told TOI: “The gig workforce in Telangana, which is around 5 lakh, plays a critical role in various sectors, including e-commerce, ride-sharing, logistics and retail. As the festive season approaches, we expect an influx of 50,000 to 75,000 new gig positions, driven by increased demand in all major cities and all urban areas across the state.”
Surinder Bhagat, CEO and founder of Gigin Technologies, said: “BPO, sales, logistics and housekeeping professions are expected to grow significantly as consumer spending and retail activity increases. Customer support Business process outsourcing (BPO) roles could grow by 15%, while delivery and logistics employment could grow by 15-20%. Demand for housekeeping services is also expected to grow by 12%.”
Gig workers in the city also work overtime. “During the festive season, we get a lot of orders for delivery, not just food, but also festive items. On regular days I deliver around three to five orders, now I am taking eight orders,” said Srinivas Rao, a delivery person
