Guntur: The state govt has rejected the DPR for drinking water scheme for Guntur readied by the public health and municipal engineering department (PH&MED) citing faulty designs.
The public health department proposed a new scheme at Rs.182 crore to lay new lines to get more water to Guntur city.
The govt has asked it to revise the plan keeping in view of the future needs of city, located close to Amaravati.
Public Health and Municipal Engineering Department (PHMED), engineer-in-chief (ENC) D Marianna visited Public Health SE office in Guntur and reviewed the progress of various projects with the officials.
Public Health SE Dasari Srinivasulu and GMC SE Nagamalleswara Rao were present at the meeting.
After going through the Detailed Project Report (DPR) readied by public health Guntur wing for improvement of drinking water supplies in Guntur, ENC Marianna expressed his serious displeasure at the officials.
He wanted to know how they wanted to provide water to a growing city like Guntur with such proposals. Marianna had earlier worked as SE in GMC. He wanted to know how could water supply be improved by replacing old pipelines with new without improving the source of water. He said that the officials depending only on consultants for preparation of DPR was not correct. He said they would not be able to provide water even to the Tidco housing colony with such a scheme.
“Already, GMC is drawing water from Sangam Jagarlamudi reservoir and the new scheme is also proposed from the same location. The new colonies and residential areas will come up close to Outer Ring Road (ORR) coming up for Amaravati and the water available in the Sangam Jagarlamudi reservoir would not be sufficient for the upcoming colonies. How can GMC draw additional water from the same reservoir,” asked Marianna.
He said that it was not wise to keep depending on Sangam Jagarlamudi,
