Hyderabad: A software professional-turned-stock trader, K Vamshi Kumar, died by suicide at his residence in Malkajgiri after he ran into losses in trading. The incident happened late on Sunday and came to light on Monday. His father, Venkateshwara Kumar, is an assistant sub-inspector with the Govt Railway Police.
Police said Vamshi Kumar, 31, was earlier working for a tech company in the IT corridor. A couple of years ago, he quit his job and started stock trading full-time. He along with his parents was residing at Gautam Nagar in Malkajgiri.
On Sunday evening, he went to their newly-constructed house in the neighbourhood, but did not return home for a long time. Later, during the night, Venkateshwara Kumar’s younger brother, who is in Nigeria, called him at home, informing him that Vamshi Kumar was not taking his calls for a long time.
Venkateshwara Kumar informed that he would go and check on his son and eventually found him in an unconscious state. He performed CPR on him and then rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead.
Police said that a few days ago, Vamshi Kumar called his uncle in Nigeria, asking him for some money to make up for the losses on his investment. “According to the family, he lost a big amount in trading and could have taken the extreme step due to the loss,” Malkajgiri police station house officer (SHO) B Satyanarayana said, adding that a case was registered and further investigation was underway.
