After learning how to boil eggs perfectly, courtesy of chef Sanjeev Kapoorwe thought there couldn’t be a better we learned. But we were wrong. Enter the 7 in 7 hard-boiled egg trick that has taken the internet by storm. Have you ever tried it?
“Basically, you can make hard-boiled eggs by simply putting the eggs in a pot, then adding 7 tbsp of water and letting it ‘boil’ for 7 minutes on medium heat. So you don’t really need a lot of water to boil hard-boiled eggs, and you don’t have to mindlessly leave your eggs to boil anymore,” said Jane, a parenting content creator, on Instagram.
Notably, eggs are known for providing high-quality protein, vitamins, and minerals such as vitamin B12, riboflavin, and selenium, which are critical for overall health. Biotin is an essential nutrient found in cooked eggs. It cannot be absorbed by the body when raw as it contains avidin. “When eggs are cooked, the avidin gets removed, which helps your body absorb biotin. Raw eggs are harder to digest than cooked eggs and can cause inflammation, swelling, breathing difficulties, and hives. One can experience digestive issues such as stomach pain, cramps, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, and gas. So, it is advised to cook your eggs,” said Jinal Patel, dietitian, Zynova Shalby Hospital.

Does it work?
Dt Parmeet Kaur, head and chief dietician and nutritionist at Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram, shared that the trick indeed works because the eggshell comes off easily after boiling for a mere seven minutes. “Cook for exactly seven minutes, after which immediately move the eggs to ice water to stop cooking them further. You will notice that it’s easier to remove the shells. Do not dry it too much,” shared Kaur.
Kaur said this ‘7 in 7 approach’ is suitable for salads, snacks, and cooking because it is high-speed and a reliable technique.
What to keep in mind?
It’s essential to use pasteurised eggs, which have been heat-treated, to eliminate dangerous bacteria and such risks. “It’s recommended to cook eggs to ensure safety while providing nutritional advantages. Always consult with a healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet,” said Kaur.
