Denied leave, Telangana Special Police constable attempts self-immolation

HYDERABAD: Nageshwar Rao, 28, a TGSP constable posted at TGSP III Battalion, Ibrahimpatnam on the outskirts of Hyderabad, attempted immolation allegedly after he was denied leave by his superiors.
His colleagues foiled his attempt, following which higher officials at the Battalion counselled him.
The incident comes amidst the ongoing protests by the TGSP personnel alleging ill-treatment at workplaces and also harassment in granting leaves and other eligible benefits.
A 2020-batch officer, Rao, hailing from Miryalaguda, Nalgonda district, was posted at Ibrahimpatnam.
For the past few days, he was requesting leave to go home for some personal work. But as he was allegedly denied leave, he took the step.
While there is no case registered in connection with the incident, the department initiated an inquiry into it.
