Hyderabad: Starting next year, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) plans to supply high-quality seeds produced at the campus to farmers across Telangana.
The varsity has decided to establish a new seed division on the campus and create a seed network across the state. A decision in this regard and several other key issues was taken at the Board of Management (BOM) meeting chaired by newly appointed vice-chancellor professor Aldas Janaiah on Wednesday.
A senior officer will be appointed to look after the seed division which aims to supply high-quality seeds to 5-10 farmers per revenue village.
The varsity will also be filling up vacant university officers’ positions with permanent ones by replacing in-charge officials serving for the last 13 years.
The BOM has also approved increasing special quota seats and reducing fees for agricultural allied courses.
“We have added about 200 seats to the existing 227 under special quota seats. The fee is also reduced from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for the four-year course,” said the VC.
The varsity has also decided to fix the tenure of department heads at three years on rotation and appoint associate deans (AD) in various colleges and associate director of research (ADR) for its Regional Agricultural Research Stations (RARS), with a two-year tenure and possibility of extension for two more years.
To strengthen the university’s research and educational activities, it will be hiring renowned agricultural scientists, as per UGC norms, with national and international experience for a period of one year, extendable up to three years.
Other key approvals include clearing pending medical bills of university employees, which have accumulated for the last 7- 8 years, in four instalments as per state govt guidelines, reviving university health centre services for current employees and pensioners which were suspended five years ago, and celebrating PJTAU’s 60th anniversary (Diamond Jubilee) in Dec with state govt and farmers’ participation.
