Hyderabad: In the backdrop of the TG Special Police (TGSP) being hit by protests from a section of its force, the security responsibility of the secretariat has been transferred from TGSP to the TG Special Protection Force (TG-SPF). They were told to immediately take over the secretariat. They will be supported by both anti-terror commandos OCTOPUS and law & order police.
The decision to change the secretariat security was taken as the police brass thought that the protests could become a threat.
TG-SPF is a specialised wing of the Telangana police which protects sensitive installations. Among the places that SPF provides security are Reserve Bank of India (RBI), DGP’s office and, chief minister’s residence.
For several decades, prior to the construction of the new secretariat in 2023, it was the TG-SPF which protected the building.
But in April 2023, a decision was taken by the then BRS govt to deploy the TGSP.
In August this year, the office of the DGP sent a proposal to state govt to transfer the responsibility back to the SPF. However, no decision was taken.
Following the TGSP protests, the DGP’s office pursued the proposal again and took the consent from the state govt to deploy the SPF.
