Hyderabad: A 28-year-old Telangana Special Police (TGSP) constable attempted to immolate himself allegedly after his superior denied him leave. The man, Nageshwar Rao, is posted at TGSP III Battalion, Ibrahimpatnam on the outskirts of Hyderabad. It was his colleagues who foiled his attempt, after which higher officials at the Battalion counselled him.

The incident comes on the heels of protests by the TGSP personnel who said they were being ill-treated at the workplaces and faced harassment while seeking leaves and other eligible benefits, a Times of India report said.

Nageshwar is a 2020-batch officer, and is from Miryalaguda, Nalgonda district. As per the report, he has been requesting leave to go home for some personal work for the last few days. However, the same was allegedly denied and he took the step.

No case has been registered in connection with the matter but an internal inquiry by the department has been ordered.
