VIJAYAWADA: YS Vijayamma, wife of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR), has made it clear that YSR did not distribute properties during his lifetime. She said some properties were registered under each child’s name during their upbringing, but not as distribution.
Breaking her silence on Tuesday over the ongoing fight between her two children — former chief minister and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and APCC president YS Sharmila — over distribution of assets left behind by YSR, Vijayamma said both her children received equal treatment from YSR and all properties belong to the family.
In an open letter, Vijayamma hoped that “Jagan and Sharmila will reconcile soon”. Referring to recent statements by senior YSRCP leaders YV Subba Reddy and Vijay Sai Reddy, she clarified that YSR did not distribute properties during his lifetime. She also mentioned Jagan’s promise to his father about supporting his sister, which she documented in her book ‘Nalo Natho YSR’.
The family remained united till 2019, sharing dividends equally. However, after becoming the chief minister, Jagan initiated property division discussions during his visit to Israel.
A subsequent MOU was drafted in Vijayawada, detailing property allocation between the siblings, Vijayamma said, and urged her children to resolve the dispute. She emphasized that such issues wouldn’t have arisen if YSR was alive.
She appealed to “others” to not provoke Jagan and Sharmila further, and appealed to YSR’s supporters and people of the state to refrain from “spreading rumours” about her family.
“I request people to stop making negative comments about my family and urge them to avoid creating fictional narratives on social media. To everyone who loved Rajasekhara Reddy, and to everyone who embraced this family, this is a plea from your Vijayamma,” she said, expressing her distress over current events. She added that while Rajasekhar Reddy believed in complete transparency, the prevailing situation is completely different.
