Vijayawada: IT minister Nara Lokesh has called upon NRIs to take proactive role to invest in Andhra Pradesh as the state govt has launched several investor-friendly policies.
He urged global data firm Equinix managing director Kaushik Joshi to set up a data centre in Andhra Pradesh with a promise to provide full support.
Lokesh interacted with the top industry captains and global business leaders at a round-table conference organised by the Indian Consulate General in San Fransisco in the US on Sunday. The Indian consul general K Srikar Reddy presided over the conference.
Addressing the NRIs, Lokesh explained various measures initiated by Chandrababu Naidu-led govt in Andhra Pradesh in the last four months. “We were number 1 in implementation of Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) when Chandrababu Naidu headed the state between 2014-19. We have now moved to Speed of Doing Business (SoDB). We have recently announced six policy initiatives to make AP the best destination for investments,” said Lokesh.
He explained salient features of the electronic policy to rope in Equinix to AP. Equinix executives explained that they have data centres across the globe with a network of over 260 international business exchange data centres.
“We are offering power and other incentives as part of the electronic policy. We are ready to walk an extra-mile if Equinix set its foot in Andhra Pradesh,” promised Lokesh.
He said that India is going create data revolution as Industry experts estimate that 300 billion dollars will be invested in the electronics sector. “AP is going to play a very significant role in hosting several big-ticket industries in electronics and data segment. We appeal all of you from various fields in USA to join hands with state govt for the comprehensive development,” said Lokesh.
He said that they designed all the policies with a goal of providing 20 lakh jobs to the youth in the next five years. He said that the chief minister has decided to make Kurnool district a drone valley.
“Plans have been ready to make undivided Chittoor and Kadapa districts as electronics hubs. Already 25 percent of the cell phones manufactured in the country are manufactured in AP. About 50 percent of ACs in the country are also manufactured in AP,” said Lokesh.
He said that they have decided to develop Prakasam district as bio-fuel hub as part of decentralization of development.
Lokesh said that capital city Amaravati works will commence from Dec within investment of $5 billion. “We have planned everything perfectly to ensure that majority of the works in Amaravati will be completed within three years,” said Lokesh.
