Diwali: Andhra Pradesh Firecracker Sales Skyrocket this Diwali as IMD Announces Clear Skies | Vijayawada News

Visakhapatnam: Firecracker traders are expecting brisk business this Diwali as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts clear skies in most parts of the state, unlike the last two years.
Speaking to TOI, Dr S Karunasagar, scientist at IMD-Amaravati said there will be no rainfall activity in the state for the next four days (from Oct 28 to Oct 31). This year, the weather may not dampen the shopping spirit of people. Most parts of the state will experience dry weather conditions and very few parts in the state may experience cloudy weather or thunderstorms during Diwali, he added.
The IMD forecast has brought cheer to firecracker traders who are expecting good business in the run up to the festival. The retail firecracker traders in Vizag, Vijayawada, Kurnool, Tirupati and few other cities and towns in the state have procured crackers from parts of Tamil Nadu. The sale of firecrackers will commence at designated stalls from Oct 29.
“The sale of crackers predominently depends on the weather conditions during Diwali. We are expecting a good sale this Diwali, said P Raju, a retail trader in Vizag city. Most traders are expected to give attractive discounts on crackers, he added.
The demand for firecrackers have gone up this year not only because of Diwali but also because of the ongoing wedding season. This has led to an increase in the price of crackers by around 10 to 15 per cent compared to last year, making this festive season a bit expensive.
This year, around 300 to 400 retail stalls are set to open in Vizag city alone, while Vijayawada will host more than 250 stalls. Traders have collectively procured crackers worth between Rs 6 lakh and 10 lakh per stall, reflecting their anticipation of high sales this festive season.
Meanwhile, the police department has announced that individuals engaged in illegal storage or sale of firecrackers without appropriate govt authorisation will face legal repercussions under the provisions of the Explosive Substances Act and the IPC. The police officials have stressed that firecracker sales must be carried out exclusively in designated areas.
