Home guards threaten to launch stir

Hyderabad: Home guards working with the Telangana police department threatened to go on a relay peace protest at Dharna Chowk from Nov 2-4 if their demands are not fulfilled by the state govt and the police department. Currently, around 16,000 home guards are working across the state.
In a letter to chief minister A Revanth Reddy and TPCC chief, B Mahesh Kumar Goud, the home guards JAC submitted their demands. “Though we are not govt employees, we provide services on par with them but are denied any eligible benefits,” said Sakinala Narayana, chairman of home guards, JAC.
They urged the reinstatement of home guards removed from service as per the HC orders and without any conditions. “Several committees submitted their reports, and there are previous judgements on home guards’ welfare and making their jobs permanent. We urge the CM to implement them,” added Narayana.
The home guards have urged the govt to make their jobs permanent, as promised by the previous govt, and provide jobs on compassionate grounds to the kin of home guards who died in the line of duty.
