Pvt agency to collect garbage from commercial complexes

Vijayawada: Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has decided to involve citizens in taking up development projects in the city.
The civic body has invited suggestions, ideas and feedback from the public to make the city the most livable and happening city.
GMC commissioner Puli Srinivasulu conducted a stakeholders meeting in the council hall on Friday. Guntur East legislator Naseer Ahmed, mayor Kavati Manohar Naidu, MLCs KS Lakshman Rao, Chukka Yesurathnam and all senior officials were present at the session.
Addressing the meeting, the commissioner said that they have decided to privatise garbage collection from commercial complexes and establishments in the city for better sanitation management. He said that they would shortly call tenders to award the exclusive private sanitation work.
“Maintenance and management of garbage from private establishments has become a big task for the civic body as the private managements are dumping everything on the streets with a view that it will be removed by the GMC workers. We will rope in a private agency for collection of garbage from private establishments, which will pay prescribed fee to the agency. This will make the city roads clean,” said Srinivasulu.
He said that they have several plans for the development of the city. We want to keep the city clean and green with the best sanitation, roads and drinking water facilities, he said. “We want to take all along with us to make the city most livable and happening,” said Srinivasulu.
He said that GMC was unable to provide drinking water to about 11.5 lakh population despite having several schemes. He said that the merged villages and outskirt areas were not getting required drinking water due to various reasons. He said that they have started redesigning schemes to provide drinking water to all households in the city. He said that they would complete drinking water schemes taken up with ADB and Amrut funds to improve the drinking water situation. He said that they would also complete Gorantla drinking water scheme by Dec.
He said that they have segregated 2.5 lakh households into 786 micro pockets to take up sanitation work.
