HYDERABAD: The government on Saturday gave formal approval for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2, which will cover five corridors. It is expected to be completed in four years. The project had been approved by the state Cabinet on Saturday last week.
Covering 76.4 km, it is projected to cost Rs 24,269 crore. The expectations are that the phase two expansion will result in an additional footfall of eight lakh commuters every day.
The new five corridors, formally approved on Saturday, include Nagole to RGIA (36.8 km); Raidurg to Kokapet to Neopolis (11.6 km); MGBS to Chandrayangutta (7.5 km); Miyapur to Patancheru (13.4 km) and LB Nagar to Hayathnagar (7.1km).
The government after a review of the earlier approved Phase-II proposals, reportedly reworked them based on updated traffic studies and several rounds of discussions.
The project is in the PPP mode with the state government having a 30 per cent, which translates to Rs 7,313 crore, the central government’s share will be 18 per cent (Rs 4,230 crore), while the remaining 52 per cent will be met through funds raised by way of loans.
The phase one of Hyderabad Metro Rail, at a cost of Rs 22,000 crore, sees the patronisation of five lakh passengers each day.
