Tenneti Park, also known as also known as Vuda Tenneti Park, is an urban park located in Visakhapatnam. A 3,000-ton Bangladeshi cargo vessel, MV Maa, drifted from the anchorage point and ran aground near Tenneti Park.
According to reports, this huge ship was supposed to be inside Visakhapatnam port. This ship, known as MV Maa, used to regularly travel from Bangladesh to Visakhapatnam. It used to carry stone, quartz, and fly ash from the Vizag port. But last year, on September 19, due to problems with documents, the ship remained at anchorage in the Outer Harbor.
MV Maa ran aground at the beach Tenneti Park, in Visakhapatnam, on October 13, 2020, due to adverse weather conditions under the influence of a depression in the Bay of Bengal the ship owners did not take it back, and the vessel was left along the city’s beach.
The owner of the ship from Bangladesh understood that no matter how hard they tried, they can not take away the ship. So they decided to take out the valuable machinery from it, removed the fuel and abandoned the ship to rust and decay.
Later, as the ship owner did not object, the state administration said that the ship would be turned into a floating restaurant to make the city a tourist spot. However, the project was not carried further.
Now the ship, which is currently in Tenneti Park has become a major tourist spot. This is located on Beach Road in Jodugullapalem. It was the first children’s park and one of the oldest parks in the city. It is located beside the seashore of the Bay of Bengal. GVMC installed LED screens in the park to boost tourism in the city. This park was named after Tenneti Viswanadham.
