Madikeri: Kodagu police, who cracked the murder of a Hyderabad-based businessman allegedly by his wife and two of her accomplices, faced a setback as one of the accused escaped from their custody during a mahazar in the neighbouring state of Telangana.
According to SP Ramarajan, one of the accused, Ankur Rana, escaped from police clutches near Hyderabad. Senior officers from Kodagu have now joined hands with Telangana police to trace him.
Kodagu police last week unearthed the murder of Hyderabad-based businessman Ramesh Kumar and charged his wife, Pantul Niharika, who hails from Telangana and resides in Bengaluru, Ankur Rana from Karnal in Haryana, and Nikhil Myreddy from Andhra Pradesh for the crime. The trio was arrested and produced before a local court, which remanded them to police custody till Nov 4.
A team of 13 policemen from Kodagu took the accused to Bengaluru for the mahazar. The team later took them to Telangana on Oct 29.
They visited Uppal in Bhvanagiri near Hyderabad, where the businessman was allegedly killed. The team stayed in a hotel near Uppal, located 30km from Hyderabad. At 3am on Oct 31, Ankur Rana escaped from the spot, police stated, adding it came to their notice after daybreak.
They filed a complaint at the Kancharam police station. It is alleged that the trio killed Kumar to get 8 crore from the sale of property. Kumar’s body was dumped at a coffee estate near Suntikoppa on Oct 8.
