The Visakhapatnam Port created history on Thursday with the arrival of the largest cargo ship to ever dock at an Indian port. The vessel, measuring 300 meters in length, 50 meters in width, and 18.46 meters in draft, is the biggest cargo ship to have visited any Indian port so far, according to port officials.
The ship, carrying 1,99,900 tonnes of manganese from Gabon in West Africa, unloaded 1,24,500 tonnes of cargo at Visakhapatnam Port. The vessel is operated by Bothra Shipping Services Ltd, which also serves as the cargo handling agent.
The shipment marks a significant milestone for Visakhapatnam Port and Bothra Shipping Services, according to Port Chairman M Angamuthu. “This shipment is a major achievement for us and highlights our capabilities in handling large volumes of cargo”, he said.
