VIJAYAWADA: As part of the mission pothole-free AP initiative, the NTR district administration has begun extensive road repair work aimed at making all district roads pothole-free. In-charge Collector Nidhi Meena has initiated repairs on 76 main roads in the first phase, with a budget allocation of Rs 7.5 crore. This phase focuses primarily on Major district roads, covering key routes across the district.
The NTR district has 1,309 kilometers of roads, including 876 kilometers of major district roads. In recent years, roads in constituencies such as Jaggaiyapet, Nandigama, Tiruvuru, and Mylavaram have deteriorated due to minimal funding for maintenance. Residents have frequently raised concerns over the poor condition of these roads, which became a prominent issue during the 2024 election campaign. The NDA alliance pledged to address road repairs swiftly if elected, leading to the launch of this program.
The repair work is structured into three phases, with plans to complete it by the Sankranti festival. In the first phase, officials are addressing roads severely damaged by factors such as heavy vehicle traffic. Quality standards will be followed rigorously to ensure durable repairs. The roads and buildings department has finalized tenders for 54 repair projects under this phase.
The in-charge collector announced that the first phase of road repair work is scheduled to be completed by December 31. Commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra also confirmed that damaged roads under the jurisdiction of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation will be addressed soon. He noted that tenders have been issued and details collected to expedite the process.
