WARANGAL: Telangana reported its third dengue death this month after a four-year-old girl died at Warangal‘s MGM hospital early on Wednesday morning. The minor had been shifted to the government facility on Tuesday when her condition started deteriorating. She had been admitted to a private hospital in Hanumakonda before that.
All the three deaths have been recorded from erstwhile Warangal district. In 2023, Telangana’s official dengue death toll was zero.

Child went into dengue shock

In the latest incident, health officials said that G Adwika, a resident of Thorrur mandal in Mahabubabad district had been suffering from high fever for the past three days. Her parents, Ashok and Amulya, admitted her to a private hospital where she tested positive for dengue.
“She was treated by an RMP initially after which the child was taken to a private hospital. By the time she was taken to MGM, Adwika was in dengue shock and extremely critical,” said a state health official adding that the child also had congenital heart disease. She died while undergoing treatment at the facility at MGM.
Fever tests being conducted
“We have received information that a girl died of dengue in Thorrur mandal. The staff is collecting the details,” Dr G Muralidhar, Mahabubabad’s district medical and health officer (DM&HO) told the media.
He added: “About 139 dengue cases have been identified in the district. The medical teams are conducting fever tests and have, so far, identified four to five people suffering from symptoms of fever. The dengue patients are being shifted to the district government hospital for treatment.”
Previously, on August 7, another four-year-old girl died of dengue at Bheemadevarapally mandal, also in Hanumakonda district. Confirming this, Dr B Sambashiva Rao, DM&HO of Hanumakonda said that she too was shifted to MGM Hospital after she tested positive for dengue at the local Primary Health Centre (PHC).
“ANM workers visited the girl’s home and immediately shifted her to PHC where the staff ran tests on her. When she tested positive for dengue fever her parents, Vijay and Anitha, admitted her to MGM where she died while undergoing treatment,” said Dr Rao.
He also confirmed that this was the second case reported from his district with the first one reported on August 2. In that case, an eight-month pregnant woman succumbed to the fever.
The deceased was identified as B Sirisha (29), a resident of Gatlakaniparthy village in Shayampet mandal of Hanumakonda district.
The incident took place in a private hospital in Hanumakonda city.
