HYDERABAD: A 22-year-old man attacked a 19-year-old woman with a knife in Medak district on Monday after she rejected his attempts to continue their relationship. The victim, Divya, is reported to be out of danger.
The incident occurred in the morning as Divya was heading to a local govt college for an exam. The accused, Chaitanya, confronted her near the examination centre, where an argument ensued, leading to the attack that resulted in injuries to her hand. Local residents who witnessed the incident rushed to her aid, while Chaitanya fled the scene.
“Divya was scheduled to take an exam for an open university degree course. The accused was waiting for her and, following their argument, he attacked her with a knife,” a district police spokesperson stated.
Both were acquaintances who had met through social media and had previously met while living in Hyderabad. “We suspect they were in a relationship, as we found photographs of them together. However, since she started distancing herself, he became annoyed and confronted her to express his desire to continue the relationship,” police added. tnn
