State to get 3 more food testing labs & 5 mobile units: Minister

Hyderabad: The state will get three more food testing laboratories along with mobile testing facilities capable of analysing 24,000 samples yearly, health minister Damodar Raja Narasimha announced on Tuesday during an event held by the food safety department.
Telangana currently has only one food testing laboratory. The three new labs will come up in Warangal, Nizamabad and Mahabubnagar.
Pointing out that food safety infrastructure has not kept pace with requirements, the minister said: “Efforts are underway to strengthen food safety department. Plans include expanding the number of food safety officers and modernising testing facilities. The Nacharam Food Safety Lab is undergoing upgrades and the three additional food testing labs will soon be operational.”
The minister said that five mobile food testing labs will be deployed and the aim was to bring them online to process at least 24,000 food samples annually.
