Vizag to get 125-ft Ganesh idol, tallest in the country

Visakhapatnam: Devotion for Lord Ganesh will reach a new high this year in Vizag city as organizers of the Ganesh Festival have decided to install around 125-feet tall idol at Lanka Grounds, Gajuwaka in the city during Ganesh Chaturthi on September 7. Towering at a height of 117-feet, the Ganesh idol (Sri Ananta Panchamukha Maha Ganapati pandal) at Vizag was the tallest eco-friendly Ganesh idol in the country in 2023.
Before the bifurcation of AP, Khairatabad in Hyderabad was renowned for its grand and fervent Ganesh Chavithi celebrations. Now, Gajuawaka Ganesh idol in Vizag has been receiving similar recognition for such celebrations. The massive 117 kg laddu at the 117 feet tall Ganesh idol pandal at Lanka grounds in Gajuwaka had fetched ₹11 lakh in an auction in 2023. The auction for laddu prasad (sacred offering) at the tallset idol in Vizag city drew a good response from Vizagites.

Kosireddy Ganesh of SV entertainments, one of the organizers of the tallest Ganesh idol pandal at Gajuwaka in Vizag city, said that the first puja for the 125-feet Ganesh idol was performed on Sunday. More than 30 artisans from West Bengal will craft the tallest Ganesh idol and another 15 people will be involved in the decoration works. The idol will be made of a mix of clay, dry grass, and wood splinters, while a small amount of the Plaster of Paris (PoP) will be used to support the weight of the idol’s hands.
The theme of the tallest idol will be announced after 70 per cent of the completion of the idol, he added.
It may take at least two months to complete the tallest Ganesh idol as the organisers will be spending more than ₹40 lakh for the crafting of the idol. The organisers said that they will receive donations from devotees for the Ganesh festival.
